The Lago di Santa Caterina, also known as the Lago di Auronzo, is an artificial reservoir created by damming the Ansiei torrent: the dam was built between 1930 and 1932 and today its waters — ranging from emerald green to turquoise — stretch for over two kilometres through the town of Auronzo di Cadore. It is the heart of the town's summer life, with small beaches, lidos and the possibility of swimming, canoeing or renting a pedalo, all under the watchful eye of the peaks that close the basin, from the Tre Cime to the Cadini.

The full circuit of the lake extends for no more than six kilometres along a level pedestrian and cycle path linking the various hamlets of the town: a comfortable stroll, suitable even for those pushing a pram, between green spaces and services always within easy reach. In summer the lakeside comes alive with events and outdoor activities, while the location makes Auronzo a practical base for exploring the Cadore and reaching Misurina and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
