Autumn transhumance (Almabtrieb)

Late September and October 2026. Each valley picks its own date depending on the weather and on when the herds come down, usually between mid September and mid October. · South Tyrol and the Dolomites

The return of the herds from the high pastures, called Almabtrieb, brings colour to the villages of South Tyrol and the Dolomites. Cows decked with flowers, cowbells and autumn festivals in the valleys.

Christmas markets

From late November 2026 to early January 2027. The main towns open their markets on 27 November 2026 and stay open until 6 January 2027. · South Tyrol

South Tyrol's Christmas markets light up the squares of Bolzano, Bressanone, Brunico, San Candido and Vipiteno. Lights, crafts, mulled wine and the scent of sweets among the mountains.
