A welcoming hut near the source of the Piave river, above Sappada.
Rifugio Sorgenti del Piave stands at 1,830 metres in Val Sesis, at the foot of Monte Peralba, a few steps from the springs of the Piave river that give the hut its name and lend it an almost symbolic significance. We are in the Carnic Alps, close to the Austrian border, in the Sappada area: a green and sheltered corner of forests, meadows and less-frequented peaks, with the calm atmosphere of mountains well away from the main tourist destinations. The hut is also the natural starting point for those wishing to climb Peralba by the normal route or its via ferratas.
Getting here is straightforward: the paved road from Cima Sappada brings you within twenty minutes' drive of the hut, from where you continue on foot towards the springs and the peaks above. The kitchen serves typical dishes from the Sappada and Comelico traditions, perfect for a break during the hike. The hut also offers overnight accommodation in rooms, making it a convenient base both for day hikers and for those wanting to tackle the ascents of Peralba and the nearby Monte Chiadenis at their own pace, discovering this authentic corner of the Dolomites.
