Le dla Creda is one of those lakes that never makes the glossy postcards but stays in the heart of those who really walk. It is located in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park above San Vigilio di Marebbe, in a sector reachable in a relatively straightforward way — including by bus to Pederu — and then on foot with a short but proper climb. Its waters change colour with the light, and close by the Ciastlins waterfall cascades down while the meadows of Tamersc spread all around. In early summer the pastures fill with gentians, arnica, and St John's lilies: a palette few people expect to find in the middle of the crags.

This is the pastoral face of this corner of the Dolomites — an environment of highland farms, herds, and silence, the exact opposite of the vertical walls closing the horizon. On the meadows it is not unusual to spot marmots whistling as you approach, chamois on the higher slopes, and birds typical of the alpine environment, which is why the area also appeals to birdwatchers. The best season runs from May to October. It remains a protected and delicate environment: stay on the marked trails and keep a respectful distance from the wildlife.
