Lago di Dobbiaco is a woodland lake at the entrance to Val di Landro, with views of Monte Rudo and the Sesto Dolomites.
The circuit is almost entirely flat, following paths and wooden boardwalks through the reedbeds — perfect for families and pushchairs.
How to get there — Parcheggio Lago di Dobbiaco (1.255 m)
The loop starts from the Lago di Dobbiaco car park (1,255 m), overlooking the Val di Landro road that runs down from Dobbiaco towards Cortina d'Ampezzo. It is easily reached by car from the Alta Pusteria, with a large paid car park right at the start of the trail. The area is also well served by public transport, with the Pusteria bus lines stopping near the lake. From the car park the nature-trail loop begins straight away, on comfortable and almost entirely level ground, suitable for pushchairs too.
The trailhead is in the Val di Sesto (Alta Pusteria) area. Check the travel guide for lift schedules, parking and access rules.

When to go & weather
The loop is a pleasure to walk from April to October, when the route is free of snow and the wooden boardwalks over the Rienza are in order. Spring and early autumn bring the finest colours and few people, while summer is the liveliest period, with families and passing tourists. Being short and level, it is also a perfect choice for days of uncertain weather or as a relaxing break between tougher hikes. Early morning or late afternoon, the lake is quieter and the light on the Sesto Dolomites shows it off far better.
Recommended gear
- Light trekking shoes or even comfortable walking shoes — the ground here is easy
- Water and a small snack, especially if walking with children
- A hat and sun cream for the more open stretches along the shore
- A light waterproof jacket, because the weather in Val di Landro can change
- Camera or phone for the reflections of Monte Rudo and the reedbeds on the water
Useful tips
- Walk the boardwalks over the reedbeds slowly: they are the most evocative section and the best place to watch the birds
- The route is pushchair-friendly, but on a few short, slightly uneven stretches it is still worth proceeding with care
- Follow the nature-trail panels: they explain the flora, fauna and geology of the wetland and make the walk more interesting for younger ones
- Go in the morning or towards evening to photograph the Sesto Dolomites mirrored in the water with far fewer people around
- If you love birdwatching, bring binoculars, as the marshland is home to several waterbird species
