Ancient village of the Primiero at the foot of the Pale, with rustic houses, wooden hay barns and the church of Sant'Andrea.

A short history

Siror sits at 744 metres, just above Fiera di Primiero, on the sunny side of the basin. It is one of the oldest villages of the Primiero and for a long time it was the municipality that also included San Martino di Castrozza, higher up towards the Pale.

The village keeps the look of the old farming settlement. Stone and wood houses press together along narrow streets, with the tabià, the wooden hay barns blackened by time, and the balconies where hay and maize were once dried. At its centre stands the church of Sant'Andrea, its bell tower visible from afar.

For centuries Siror lived on farming, herding and forest, like the whole valley. As San Martino di Castrozza grew into a tourist resort, the village became a quiet base, away from the crowds but a few minutes from the slopes and trails of the Pale di San Martino.

What to see

  • The altopiano delle Pale di San Martino, the great rocky plateau that rises above the village, heart of the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park.
  • The church of Sant'Andrea in the centre of the village, with its bell tower and the narrow streets of the old farming borough.
  • The Val Venegia, one of the finest valleys of the group, with meadows and mountain huts at the foot of the Cimon della Pala, reached by climbing towards the Passo Rolle.
