A historic hut in the heart of the Catinaccio, at the foot of the celebrated Torri del Vajolet.
Rifugio Vajolet stands at 2,243 metres in the heart of the Catinaccio Group, just below the celebrated Torri del Vajolet — the vertical spires that have shaped the history of Dolomite climbing. It is a long-established hut: the first building dates to 1897, erected by the Leipzig section of the Alpenverein, followed by several extensions up to 1912, before it passed to the SAT of Trento in 1923. Generations of climbers and hikers have made the journey up to this rocky amphitheatre, one of the most austere and captivating settings in the western Dolomites.
It is reached on foot from Val di Fassa, usually starting from the Ciampedie area or from Vigo di Fassa with the help of the lifts, then ascending Val Vajolet — often via Rifugio Gardeccia. The kitchen offers Ladin and Trentino flavours, perfect for restoring energy after the walk. Open roughly from mid-June to the end of September, with a generous number of beds, the hut is an excellent base for those wanting to wake up at the foot of the Towers and tackle the ferratas and trails of the Catinaccio in the early morning.
