Ice falls and peaks in winter conditions, for experienced and well-equipped mountaineers.
When the cold turns water into vertical columns, the Dolomites become a playground for winter mountaineering. The most sought-after discipline is ice climbing on frozen waterfalls: climbs on ephemeral ice with axes and crampons, reserved for those with experience, technique and the right gear.
The kingdom of ice par excellence is the Serrai di Sottoguda at the foot of the Marmolada, a narrow gorge where dozens of ice falls of every difficulty come together. Here you'll find ice and winter mountaineering routes with grade and length. It's a serious pursuit: conditions change fast, so always assess the bulletin and move with a reliable partner or a mountain guide.
