A short history
Obereggen is a hamlet of Deutschnofen (Nova Ponente) in the Eggental (Val d'Ega), at 1,550 metres at the foot of the Latemar. The valley station of the lifts is in the centre, and according to the tourist board trails, bike routes and lifts start right outside the doors of hotels, guesthouses and apartments.
In winter Obereggen is one of the three base areas of Ski Center Latemar. The lift company, based here, gives it 50 kilometres of slopes and 18 lifts: the runs are linked with Pampeago and Predazzo in the Val di Fiemme, and you cross from one side to the other on skis. Seven of the lifts are at Obereggen. The Maierl is the European Cup slalom slope, and the Obereggen run is floodlit in the evening for 1.6 kilometres.
In summer the Ochsenweide gondola and the Oberholz chairlift climb to the Latemarium, the Latemar hiking area, with themed trails, installations and viewpoints. Among the huts of the area is the Oberholz, which the tourist board cites as an example of contemporary mountain architecture. On foot from the village you can also reach a leaning rock tower 40 metres high, part of the Latemar, which the tourist board compares to the Tower of Pisa.

How to get to Obereggen
By car, leave the A22 at Bolzano Nord, take the SS 241 up the Eggental to Ponte Nova (Birchabruck) and turn right there for Obereggen: the Latemar website reckons 25 minutes from the exit. By train, get off in Bolzano and continue by regional bus or taxi, 30 minutes according to the same website; many hotels offer a free shuttle. If you cannot find a space near the lifts in winter, a shuttle links the car park with the valley station.
When to go
In winter the 2026/27 season at Obereggen runs from Friday 27 November 2026 to Sunday 4 April 2027, and the Obereggen run is floodlit on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7 to 10 pm. In summer 2026 the Oberholz chairlift runs from 6 June to 4 October and the Ochsenweide gondola from 13 June to 4 October, from 8.30 am to 6 pm: these are the weeks for the Latemarium and for the Latemar mountain bike tour.
