A historic hut on the Sciliar summit plateau, one of the oldest in the Dolomites.

Rifugio Bolzano allo Sciliar — in German, Schlernhaus — stands at 2,457 metres on the vast summit plateau of the Sciliar, just below the peak of Monte Pez, on the landmark mountain that dominates the Alpe di Siusi. It is one of the oldest huts in South Tyrol: built in 1885 by the Alpenverein and extensively renovated over the decades, it is still served by a cable lift that carries supplies. Managed for generations by the Gasser family, it preserves the authentic, history-laden atmosphere of the great traditional huts, with sweeping views over the Alpe di Siusi, the Catinaccio and the surrounding summits.

It is reached on foot from the Alpe di Siusi along trails that climb the slopes of the Sciliar to the summit plateau — a scenic route requiring a good level of fitness. The kitchen serves typical South Tyrolean dishes, ideal for regaining energy after the ascent. With a generous number of beds divided between dormitories and rooms, the hut is a well-sized base for staying overnight and exploring the Sciliar summit at leisure. Sleeping here means experiencing the magic of dawn and dusk on one of the most iconic mountains in South Tyrol.
