Rifugio Bolzano allo Sciliar — in German, Schlernhaus — stands at 2,457 metres on the vast summit plateau of the Sciliar, just below the peak of Monte Pez, on the landmark mountain that dominates the Alpe di Siusi. It is one of the oldest huts in South Tyrol: built in 1885 by the Alpenverein and extensively renovated over the decades, it is still served by a cable lift that carries supplies. Managed for generations by the Gasser family, it preserves the authentic, history-laden atmosphere of the great traditional huts, with sweeping views over the Alpe di Siusi, the Catinaccio and the surrounding summits.
