A panoramic hut among the Cadini di Misurina, surrounded by spectacular spires and scree slopes.
Rifugio Fonda Savio stands at 2,367 metres in the heart of the Cadini di Misurina group, one of the wildest and most scenic corners of the eastern Dolomites. All around is a labyrinth of sharp spires, towers and scree slopes that create spectacular landscapes, greatly loved by photographers and demanding hikers. Inaugurated in 1963 and owned by the XXX Ottobre CAI section of Trieste, the hut is dedicated to Piero, Paolo and Sergio, the three sons of Antonio Fonda Savio who fell during the Second World War. Its secluded position creates an authentic atmosphere, far removed from the crowds of the more famous destinations.
It is reached on foot climbing from Misurina along a trail that winds through scree and rock faces of the Cadini, a route that requires a fair level of fitness. At the kitchen, tasting the strudel has become something of a ritual — it has an excellent reputation among mountaineers. With around forty beds, plus a winter room, the hut allows you to stay overnight and explore the scenic trails of the group at leisure, catching the evening light on the spires. Sleeping at the Fonda Savio means immersing yourself in an environment of rare beauty, well away from the crowds of the area's most celebrated peaks.
