Lake Dobbiaco is one of those destinations that pleases everyone. Born from ancient landslides along the road that descends from Dobbiaco toward Landro and the Tre Cime, it is a shallow body of water set between the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park and the Sesto Dolomites Nature Park, so protected that it holds the status of natural monument. The loop trail is just over two kilometres, flat and suitable even for pushchairs and toddlers; a nature trail with interpretation panels along the way explains the flora, fauna, and geology of the basin. In spring and autumn the reed beds fill with waterfowl, and for birdwatching enthusiasts it is a small paradise.

A short distance to the south, in the territory of Sesto, the Val Fiscalina is another world entirely: a broad meadow valley closed off by vertical walls, with the Rifugio Fondovalle as its gateway. From here trails climb toward the high-altitude huts and the heart of the Tre Cime Nature Park, including the celebrated route to the Rifugio Locatelli. It is a place that in real life surpasses even the photographs, especially at first light and in the last of the evening sun, when the enrosadira sets the crags alight. Lake and valley can be comfortably combined in a single day, with just a few minutes' drive between them.
