A hut on the Col Raiser plateau, at the foot of the Odle, reachable by gondola lift.
Rifugio Firenze still goes by its old German name too, Regensburger Hütte. It sits at 2,037 metres on the Alpe di Cisles, on the wide Col Raiser plateau at the foot of the Odle in Val Gardena. It is one of the oldest huts in the valley. The Regensburg section of the Alpenverein built it in 1888, and after South Tyrol passed to Italy in 1921 the CAI of Florence took it over and gave it the name it has now. Set in open pasture, looking out at the spires of the Odle and the nearby Sassolungo, it has the wide, airy feel of the northern Dolomites.
You can ride up easily on the gondola from Col Raiser, so you do not need a long hike to get here. Or walk up on the plateau trails, also from Selva di Val Gardena. The kitchen does Ladin and Gardenese dishes, best with the Odle in front of you. There are plenty of beds in both rooms and dormitories, which makes it a good base for the Puez-Odle Nature Park and for staying over in a place with a view, catching the morning and evening light on one of the most loved mountain groups in the Dolomites.
The easiest way up is the gondola from Col Raiser, in Val Gardena, so you can get here without a long hike. As an alternative you can walk up the plateau trails of the Alpe di Cisles, also from Selva di Val Gardena. You leave the car at the parking areas by the lift base stations, with parking and gondola fees to be checked for the current year. The best window runs from summer to early autumn, when the trails are clear of snow and the lifts and hut are running. The gondola ride and the easy trails make it a good choice for families too. Go in the morning so you have time for the Puez-Odle Nature Park in front of the spires of the Odle.
