A hut on the Fanes plateau, renowned for housing the highest brewery in Europe.
Rifugio Lavarella stands at around 2,050 metres on the broad Fanes plateau, inside the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park — one of the most fascinating and legend-steeped territories in the Dolomites. Surrounded by meadows, small lakes and rock faces, managed for over a century by the Frenner family, it offers an atmosphere of great tranquillity far from mass tourism. Its most remarkable feature is the Ga.Beer microbrewery, considered the highest in Europe: since 2019, craft beer brewed with mountain water has been produced here in the basement, in limited quantities and unavailable anywhere else.
It is reached on foot on an excursion that usually departs from San Vigilio di Marebbe or from Val Badia, ascending the trails that climb towards the Fanes plateau. The kitchen serves Ladin and South Tyrolean dishes, best accompanied by the beers brewed on site for a truly original culinary experience. With a good number of beds, in both private rooms and dormitories, the hut is an excellent base for exploring the many attractions of the park — from lakes to waterfalls. Staying here means fully living the magical, legend-filled atmosphere of the Fanes plateau.
