Carezza: The Ski Area Below the Catinaccio and Latemar

Figures and altitudes

The consortium states 40 km of slopes and 13 lifts, and lists them one by one: 5 gondolas, the open-top cable car from Tires, 3 chairlifts, 2 drag lifts and 2 moving carpets. The Open Data Hub of the Province of Bolzano gives the same 40 km but 14 lifts, and its description mentions the Paolina chairlift plus 13 other lifts.

The lowest point of the slopes is Nova Levante, where the gondola starts at 1,182 m; the highest is the start of the King Laurin run, at 2,337 m. The open-top cable car from Tires climbs from 1,124 to 1,752 m and is the way into the area from the Tires side.

The slopes and who they suit

The consortium's table lists 31 sections with number, colour and length. Added up, the blue sections come to about 27.5 km, the red to 8.6 and the black to 3.6. The Open Data Hub instead splits the 40 km into 19 blue, 16 red and 5 black. The two sources grade some sections differently, but they agree on the main point: most of the skiing here is easy or intermediate.

The longest blue runs are the Nova Levante (no. 24, 5,140 m), the blue section of the Tschein (no. 30, 4,000 m) and the Nani Fun Slope (no. 24B, 3,040 m). For beginners the consortium recommends the Golf (no. 43, 1,820 m), and explains that the blue runs are in the lower parts of the area, away from the faster slopes.

The longest descent is the King Laurin run: 7.7 km from 2,337 m down to the village of Nova Levante. The black runs are five sections: the King Laurin (no. 21, 740 m) and its Tires variant (no. 20, 1,050 m), both flagged for gradients of up to 65%, then the Pra di Tori (no. 54, 850 m), the Masarè-Rosengarten (no. 44, 515 m) and the Paolina (no. 45, 490 m).

Among the red runs, the longest are the red section of the Tires variant (1,600 m), the Paolina (1,500 m) and the Latemarwiesen (no. 55, 1,350 m). The Pra di Tori has a Speed Check to measure your speed, and the Le Pope drag lift also takes you to its start.

Getting there and where to leave the car

By car, the consortium directs you along the Brenner motorway to the Bolzano Nord exit, then up the Val d'Ega towards Nova Levante and Carezza.

There are three ways into the area. At Nova Levante the gondola climbs to Malga Frommer. From Tires, the open-top cable car, opened in the 2021/22 winter, covers 4 km to the same hut, with cabins for 50 people and 10 places on the open roof. At Lake Carezza the Paolina chairlift starts, and at Passo Costalunga you find the Pra di Tori chairlift, the Le Pope drag lift and the children's area.

At the lake there are three pay car parks, which cannot be booked and stay open in winter: rates and capacity of the main one are in our guide to lake car parks.

Without a car: in winter the Val d'Ega ski buses link the villages with Carezza and Obereggen, and guests staying with members of the valley's tourist associations get the South Tyrol Guest Pass, valid for seven days on all public transport in South Tyrol. Shuttle buses from the valley's accommodation serve the Tires cable car, and inside the area a bus links Malga Frommer with the Golf drag lift. Ski passes

With the Dolomiti Superski pass you ski at Carezza and in the other eleven areas of the network: how it works and how to pay less is in our Dolomiti Superski ski pass guide. For several days, the consortium points you to that pass and to the Val di Fassa/Carezza pass; according to its website the Val di Fassa/Carezza zone has 110 km of slopes and 50 lifts across six ski areas.

The consortium also publishes 2026/27 prices for its day ticket and 4-hour ticket, which are 5% cheaper in its online shop. The standard rate applies from 4 to 19 December 2026, 10 to 30 January and 14 to 29 March 2027; the peak rate from 20 December to 9 January and from 31 January to 13 March. The prices:

• Adults: €68 for the day and €52 for 4 hours at the standard rate, €75 and €56 at the peak rate
• Juniors, born after 1 January 2009: €48 and €37, peak €53 and €39
• Seniors, born before 31 December 1961: €61 and €52, peak €68 and €56
• Babies, born after 1 January 2019: €34 and €26, peak €38 and €28; free if a parent buys a day ticket at the same time

Beginners, children and snow park

There are three children's areas, all from age 3. King Laurin's Kinderland, the largest, is at Passo Costalunga at the top of the Hubertus gondola. The Naniland is at Malga Frommer, where the Nova Levante gondola and the Tires cable car arrive. The Vigo di Fassa ski school's Kinderland is also on the pass.

There are two ski schools: the Carezza ski school, with desks at Lake Carezza, Malga Frommer, the Kinderland and the Golf drag lift, and the Vigo di Fassa ski school, with an office at Passo Costalunga. Between Malga Frommer and Nova Levante runs the King Laurin theme slope, with six stops about the Catinaccio legends; at the Le Pope drag lift the Trail of Legends is designed for children and freestyle beginners.

The Carezza Snowpark has three lines: the Family Fun Line with 1.5 and 3 m boxes, the Easy Line with kickers up to 3 m and the Medium Line with 6, 7 and 8 m kickers. Next to it there is a learning park for young riders with kickers, boxes and whoops.

Beyond downhill skiing

Tobogganing is on the Hubertus run: 1.2 km and a 126 m descent, with the gondola to take you back up. Toboggans are available at the ski hire.

The cross-country trails of Nova Levante and Carezza are free for everyone, according to the Val d'Ega tourist board; one of the loops is the Frin loop at Nova Levante. For snowshoeing, the consortium suggests, among others, an easy route from Passo Costalunga to the Latemar meadows (5.8 km, 1 hour 42 minutes on its route sheet) and an intermediate one from Lake Carezza to the Mitterleger clearing (9.1 km). More ideas on our snowshoeing page.

Lake Carezza can be visited in winter too: the path around the lake stays open, and from 25 November the visitor centre, underpass and toilets are open from 9 am to 5 pm.

Links to other ski areas

The two tours that start from Carezza cover the connecting stretches by bus. The Dolomiti Superski pass covers the lifts; public buses and ski bus 7 are paid separately.

Rosengarten Ronda. This is the tour around the Catinaccio: 35 km of slopes and 18 lifts according to the area's leaflet. From Passo Costalunga you take the bus to Pozza di Fassa, ski through the Val di Fassa via Buffaure, Ciampac and Belvedere-Col Rodella, cross into Val Gardena and the Alpe di Siusi, and return by road to Tires, where the open-top cable car takes you back into the area. Anticlockwise is the recommended direction. Dolomiti Superski lists it among the zone's tours, and its 2025/26 calendar had it open from 6 December 2025 to 6 April 2026.

Latemar Ronda. It combines Carezza and Obereggen in one day. From Passo Costalunga ski bus 7 goes down to Vigo di Fassa, from there bus line B101 takes you to Predazzo, where the Predazzo-Gardonè gondola climbs to the Latemar; from Obereggen a ski bus brings you back to Nova Levante. It also works in reverse, starting from Obereggen, which Dolomiti Superski places in the Val di Fiemme / Obereggen zone: see the Val di Fiemme.
